“Evelyn” – movie with discussion hosted by Dr. Galin McGowan

Doors open at 9:30am, movie begins at 10:00am.
Popcorn and soda is included!

Through the medium of film, experienced collectively in the temenos of the Burns Court cinema, we will explore the process of symbolic interpretation via the analytical lens of Jungian psychology.

Jung believed that images, experienced symbolically, both individually and collectively, consciously and unconsciously aid the psyche in transformation beyond the boundaries of the ego personality and can move the Self toward healing and wholeness.

In this film, we will trace the hero’s journey and individuation process along with learning about Jung’s concepts of the Anima/Animus, archetype, complex, puer/senex, transformation, symbols of the Self, the approach to the numinous and more.

An introduction to the psychological concepts will be presented, followed by post film discussion.

Evelyn

Evelyn is a 2002 Irish drama film directed by Bruce Beresford and written by Paul Pender, loosely based on the true story of Desmond Doyle and his fight in the Irish courts (December 1955) to be reunited with his children. The film stars Sophie Vavasseur in the title role, Pierce Brosnan as her father and Aidan Quinn, Julianna Margulies, Stephen Rea, and Alan Bates as supporters to Doyle’s case.
